Top class Pinot Noir from Yamhill-Carlton in Oregon
Ron Sanchez releases this beauty of a Pinot Noir in 2019, it is a firm custom on his part that he only releases his wine for sale when he himself thinks the wine expresses itself perfectly. He is a dedicated wine farmer who focuses on quality over quantity, which is also reflected in the fact that only 220 cases of this beautiful wine have been produced.
Tryptique is made from the Dijon clones 113, 114 and 115 which give this complex structure, finesse and depth. The wine offers a complex and elegant taste profile. It is characterized by ripe red berries such as cherry and raspberry, accompanied by notes of spices and earth. There is also a light hint of forest floor and truffle which adds depth to the flavour. The tannins are finely integrated and give a silky texture, while the balanced acidity contributes to a fresh finish.
The nose is rich and seductive with aromas of red fruits, such as strawberries and cherries, combined with delicate floral scents of violets. After some time in the glass, the wine develops complex notes of spices, leather and a touch of vanilla from barrel ageing.
Food for the wine
This Pinot Noir is versatile and goes well with a wide range of dishes. It is excellent for poultry, lamb and pork, as well as dishes with mushrooms or truffles. The wine can also be enjoyed with medium-strong cheeses and vegetarian dishes such as ratatouille or lentil dishes.
Tryptique Pinot Noir 2015 has good aging potential. The wine can be drunk now to enjoy its fresh fruit notes, but will also develop more complex secondary and tertiary aromas with another 5-10 years of aging.
The wine has aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, it is complimented really nicely in the wine.
It is one of the best Pinot noirs we have tasted in a long time, and it is clear to feel that Ron can and will measure up to the best Pinot Noir producers worldwide.
It is recommended to open the wine min. 1 hour before serving to get the best expression of the wine.

2015 DOMAINE VERDANT, TRYPTIQUE PINOT NOIR, OREGON,
ULRIK
The next wine from the professor at Domaine Verdant was this 2015 Tryptique Pinot Noir, which is probably almost like Quintessence and then only aged in used oak barrels.
Since the barrel footprint is thus also smaller, Ron himself calls this wine the fruit story.
Again, the wine is made from Pinot Noir vines of the Dijon clones 113, 114 and 115 and likewise the clones are vinified separately and otherwise made completely traditionally according to Burgundian traditions and this means that the Pinot Noir grapes are de-stemmed and then crushed quite lightly, which gives aromatic freshness and softness.
Fermentation is done with a special yeast strain called Assmanhausen and comes from Rheingau in Germany. This type of yeast is widely used in the production of Pinot Noir and is known to be a slow starter which also allows the grapes own wild yeast to play a role and increase complexity.
Since the yeast type starts slowly, no pre-fermentation or pre-maceration is used, as the fermentation usually only starts after a few days, but usually lasts 10-14 days.
After fermentation, Tryptique is also aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, but here only in barrels that have been used several times. Only after aging is the wine finally blended and then aged in bottle, where it also lies for a period until release, which is released in 2019. Only 220 cases of this wine have been made.
Tryptique doesn't need that long in the glass to open up... already after a short time lots of fruit emerges in the form of green strawberries, soft strawberries, raspberries and light cherries, some forest floor, ink, pill glass and small woody notes.
How good it tastes... a bit reminiscent of Quintessence, only fresher and the fruit seems younger or at least with more bite and rustic clean acidity. There are thus strawberries, raspberries, cherries and they are then joined by some lemon and a little citric acid, lots of bite, white pepper and this stringent, bright and ongoing acidity. Even the tannins are a bit more awake, but overall a fruity and straight wine that tastes far more European than American... so 94 points.
