Justin Boxler Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardives 2020 is a late-harvest aromatic single-field wine.
The grapes come from a very small plot, where the vines were planted in 1965. Lovely sweetness, pleasant acidity. Harvested in 2020 during the 2nd corona lock down :-)
From Vinlex:
In 1983, Alsace got its official designation for late-harvest grapes, which may only be used in Alsace. The requirements are that the wine must come from a single field and must be made from either riesling, muscat, gewürztraminer or pinot gris. In addition, the wine must not be fortified and the natural sugar content must be at least 95 oechsle (220 g/l) for Riesling and Muscat or 105 Oechsle (243 g/l) for Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Each year a limit is set for when the grapes may be picked at the earliest and before they may carry the Vendange Tardive label, they must be analyzed and tasted by the authorities. So everything has been done to ensure that you cannot cheat with a Vendange Tardive.
Vendange Tardive is not necessarily affected by botrytis, nor is it necessarily sweet, despite the very high proportion of sugar. In fact, the wine can easily be dry. There is a further refinement of Vendange Tardive called sélection de grains nobles. Village.
