White wine from the Chardonnay grape and from Kellerei Kaltern in South Tyrol, on the border between Italy and Austria.
Kellerei Kaltern is certified according to Fair'n'green, a regulation that looks both at sustainability in production, environmental impact and social responsibility.
For many years, no distinction was made in Tyrol between Pinot blanc and Chardonnay, as the grapes are confusingly similar in taste and appearance. However, Chardonnay tends to be a little fatter and with more rounded acidity and with a history in the area that goes back 150 years, it is a beloved and appreciated grape.
The grapes for the wine are hand-picked in fields at an altitude of 350-450 metres, and after fermentation with whole bunches, the wine is left in steel tanks for 3 months with yeast residues which give the wine a light fatness.
The wine is straw yellow in the glass and in the aroma you will find bananas, ripe pears and citrus fruits as well as a delicious balanced minerality. In the glass, the wine is creamy and elegant with a good finish.
Drink it with fish and shellfish, on the terrace or by itself.
